If we mean of Cleopatra fame, had the fellow either picked a better port or tried his fortunes on land, a better outcome at Actium.

Poor man. Great personal leader, at his best when things were down, terrible luck at logistics.

Which means bad planning of course.

Had he been a tad more wary and let Octavian come on at the Theater level (Actium a logistical mistake for his fleet) a different world.

As far as his taste in ladies, I cannot fault this Oriental arrangement, taking her to battle a mistake. But good heavens, what man with a Queen at his feet doesn’t…

It’s just not possible to hate the man, even Octavian wept at his death. They had been partners.

I was referring to the Victorian novelist, Anthony Trollope, and, in doing so, showing my age!

If Kaiser Wilhelm II had been smart, or just prudent, (versus dumb, envious of France and biased against the UK) perhaps Europe would have a different history.
