A few moments ago, on Notes, I dropped eaves on an exchange between two Substack authors (The Muse and Create Me Free), each of whom was intent upon learning Italian, and had just become aware of the other. It was a marvelous thing to behold, and, if I am not too badly mistaken, the beginning of a beautiful friendship. (Come si dice "squee" in italiano?)
Observing this encounter reminded me that the grand adventure of self-tuition can, and, indeed, should, be shared. To that end, I offer the comments to this blog as a forum of sorts, a place where autodidacts can find resources, pen pals, practice partners, and readers for their writing.
I am loving the connections I am forming here on Substack. I have always disliked social media but this is the best part of it - authentic, Longform, thoughtful. It definitely reminds me of The early days of blogging, of zines and pen pals.
