I don’t know much about artificial intelligence. However, in the past few months I have been experimenting with various fee-free services that allow cheapskate neophytes like me to dip their toes into the weird, wonderful, wild, and wacky world of large language models.
In the course of these chair-borne adventures, ChatGPT revealed itself to be a first-class ‘brain-storm buddy’ and Co-Pilot demonstrated a talent for making pictures. At the same time, both programs displayed a degree of caprice that hampers their utility. In particular, while ChatGPT cited books that never existed (not even in the famous library of Borges), Co-Pilot will, when left to his own devices, deprive figures of substantial portions of their hats and shoes.
